What does 0 station mean?

I know I should know this. At L&D yesterday they said I was 3cm, 60-70% effaced and the baby was 0 station. I know what dilated and effacement is, but what does the station refer to? What does the 0 mean?

It's where the baby is at in realtion to your pelvis.  Being at 0 station means that the baby is VERY low.

It's where the baby is in relation to your pelvis...0 is good    negative numbers mean the baby is still 'up', positive means the baby is on the way out.

It means you are getting ready.

LOL! I only know dilated. Have no clue what effaced means, so this "zero" station you speak of is chinese to me!

Effaced is how thinned your cervix is.

Let me put it this way - my baby is at zero and the nurse who was checking me could feel the baby's head with her hand. At zero,, they are almost ready to meet the world!

How fun! My OB said she could feel his head at my appointment. Now my cervix just needs to keep dilating and hopefully LO will be here soon. I feel so bad for DH, he was so so excited yesterday that we got sent to L&D.
