I'm doing a bunch of research and having some troubles. I'm looking for a kids cell phone that I can add to my plan for emergency uses. It needs to be e911 (GPS) enabled so that 911 will know where to go. My daughter can tell you which city she lives in, but thats it.
I have looked into Firefly but can't find any statement that its GPS enabled. Still looking.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Kids Cell Phones with E911 capability
hmmmm, I don't know of any but what a great idea!!
maybe you need to get yourself a patent!
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
Oh no! My 1 year old niece called twice too.
Here is the story.

That is VERY scary. I am not trying to be rude or mean, but I would have major reservations about my MIL being home alone with my young child all day if she refuses/cant make herself call 911 in an emergency and calls you screaming instead. What if something happened to your daughter? It sounds like your MIL needs counseling, and that your husband needs to sit down with her and voice his concerns about her debilitating fear of calling 911. That could be more dangerous than needing to call 911 in the first place, kwim?
IF you call your current cell phone provider they should be able to tell you what type of phones have GPS or can have the "family locator" downloaded into it.
This is what I found regarding Firefly and GPS:
Does the Firefly phone have GPS or tracking?
Firefly phones do not have GPS or tracking built in to the phone. However, when an Emergency Services call is made from a Firefly phone, through the use of the Emergency Button (available on the Original Firefly Phone and the glowPhone), or by dialing 911 (flyPhone) any Call Blocking is automatically turned off for an hour, so the user can be contacted by Emergency Services personnel should they need to call the user back. This was definitely a topic last night. It ended up that MIL would have called 911 if something would have happened to DD. She has already called 911 when my nephew had a seizure. Its when she has to call for herself that she has reservations. She did do the right thing and call somebody (first FIL, then me) I was there within 8 minutes, DH within 10 and FIL within 15. What it came down to is that she saw how terrified my daughter was that she was scared that paramedics (strangers to my daughter) would have come in would have scared her more. I do agree with you, she needs to feel comfortable calling for help. I'm actually surprised that my local bumpies didn't bring this up because it was one of our big issues too.

Thank you! I've been searching for 2 hours and couldn't come up with anything. That is kind of rediculous. My DD is just learning to identify numbers on paper, there is no way I could teach her our address. She can say "I live in Duvall". Thank you for the other link...those phones are even more complicated than MIL's cell phone. I would be better off teaching her how to dial from it. I did store pictures of immediate family members in MIL's phone, so when they call and DD recognizes grandpa and myself, she will answer it on her own. I really appreciate it!

I know you're worried, but isn't a 3 year old a little too young to be trusting with a phone, even if it IS only an emergency phone???
I would never in a million years give my 3 year old his own phone for emergencies. I don't think any 3 year old is responsible enough for that... JMO.
The phone I'm looking for has three buttons: Mom, Dad, and emergency.
