For the past week I have been dealing with severe nausea. It's at the point where I can barely keep my head off of the pillow, which makes getting through the work day quite interesting.
I called my doctor at 1:30pm. Explained that I am a new patient and I totally understand them not wanting to prescribe me any drugs before they even see me. So the receptionist was sort of snooty and transfered me to the nurse's voicemail. I very nicely explained my situation and she never called me back! Now I am second guessing whether I picked the right practice. New patient or not shouldn't I at least be extended a call back the same day?
I don't know if I am just being hormonal or what. Probably a little bit of both
Re: should I be annoyed with dr's office?
I'm not saying you should def. switch, BUT... if there are other options in your area you may want to investigate further. Dr.'s offices not returning calls when patients are nervous or uncomfortable pisses me off... it's not like you need the actual doc to call... a nurse would do just fine. It would annoy me and I think it is a small red flag and I would see if they call back first thing in the morning or not.
I think they should have called you back today, especially since your nausea is so severe. Try again in the morning and explain you never heard anything back.
FWIW, my OB/GYN's office is very good about calling back. It's their job to be attentive to patients.
If you're not satisfied, definitely find a new practice. You need to feel comfortable with the doctor and the staff you will be seeing for awhile. Good luck.
Ugh, that's annoying. I've had that happen before too. My advice is to call back in the morning and tell them you called yesterday but never heard back. Be nice at first but if you don't talk to someone, I'd get snooty right back!
This. GL!
