1st Trimester

So annoyed at Dr's office right now.....

I've been calling for the past week and half trying to get a dr.'s appt. to get the pregnancy confirmed, with no luck.   Plus, they won't let me prebook for something like this.  I live an hour away, so pretty much I have to get up every morning (that I don't work) and call and hope that I can get an appt. sometime during the day - but I live an hour away and already have 2 children to arrange babysitting for...... blah!

They just instituted a new no pre-booking policy (except for prenatal appt. and medicals, etc.), so they won't prebook me.....  But, what's really annoying is that they won't book a prenatal appointment until I get a confirmation by a dr!   I can see that the policy will be good once they get through their existing pre-booked appts. and then everyday will be a clean slate......I guess they are in transition right now:(

There is a clinic in a town a half an hour away, but they don't delivery babies in that hospital or do the whole prenatal care thing. I like to maintain a bit a level of consistency with my dr.'s, so I kind of want to go the place where I'll be doing all my prenatal care..... Hopefully, I'll get in next week and then can book my prenatal appt...... Who Knows? Maybe the wait time to get an appt. won't be as long anymore after this?
  • A doctor needs to confirm?  That is weird.  Those home pregnancy tests are very accurate.  Actually, when I worked at a doctor's office, we would test with urine on tests that you could buy in the store.  A blood test is overkill in my book.

Can't you just go to a GP in town?

  • We don't have a GP in this town, at all.   I find it weird that they won't just book my prenatal appointment, too.  Maybe the receptionist is cranky?
  • Ask to talk to the office manager.

  • Yeah, I'm confused why you would need a confirmation of pg appointment at all? Why can't they just schedule your first prenatal appointment?

That makes sense.  I hope you can get in soon!

A doctor needed to confirm mine too, and I live 3 hours away from the OB practice I'm going to.  I have no established doctor in town and no one would take me just for a confirmation urine test without booking a new patient appointment, for which they booked like 2 weeks out.  I didn't make any of these arrangements before hand, thinking it wouldn't be that difficult.  I had to drive THREE HOURS to drop PEE OFF at my doctor's office cause I couldn't find anyone to administer a pregnancy test to me in my area.  Even after explaining all this to them they wouldn't take the home pregnancy test.

@ OP, can you go to the office that is closer to you for the confirmation of pregnancy appointment only, and then make an appointment where you would like to do your prenantal appointments?  Or would you like to maintain that cnosistency also?

I don't know!  They just won't, I've asked......  Personally, I don't really want to make a wasted trip into that town, just to pee in a cup (or get blood taken).  But, I guess that is their policy (or their Dr.'s policy - they run the show there and make the policies - they are excellent dr.'s, though.... which is part of the reason I go there).   At least they'll probably send me for all my blood work and make up an ultrasound order, when I do get in for a confirmation appt.....

  • I had to get a confirmation of pg for my insurance before I would be covered.  I just went to the local clinic - it was real easy and it was free (they only charge for the test if you end up not being pregnant).
