Anyone else gotten abnormal results from their PP pap smear? I just got a call that mine needs repeating in 6 months and I'm kind of freaking out. Why not repeat it right away?
My mom had cervical cancer so I'm a little terrified right now.
I have not gotten one. 6 months seems a little excessive. Do they know of your family history? I would call and ask.
I kind of understand how you feel about being afraid of the cancer. Every time I have some kind of pain near where my ovaries are, I get scared because my mom has ovarian cancer.

My PP pap came back normal, but I have had my fair share of abnormal paps. First of all, the chances of getting an abnormal pap just after having a baby are much higher than any other time because things are still "healing" down there and getting back to normal.
To have the pap repeated in 6 mos. is standard. They won't repeat it right away, because things don't change that fast ... when I say things, I mean cells that could be pre-cancerous. Based on your results you Dr. would either choose to see you again in 6 months (meaning not a huge concern but they want to keep an eye on it to see where it goes) or they could have had you come in for a colposcopy to do a biopsy of the cells.
You got the better of the two, which means that your pap results were not THAT alarming. Try to relax, you are okay, and in 6 months time it may go away ... that's what they are waiting to see. HTH.
