I saw my OB/GYN last week. She wants me to use OPKs to confirm that I am ovulating. I started charting last month, and so far, I've had a temperature shift each month. I was just curious-is it possible to have a thermal shift without ovulating? I didn't bring my charts with me to the appt, and I don't think she was particularly interested in them anyway. (separate issue). Thanks for your thoughts.
Re: Thermal shift and no ovulation?
OPKs won't tell you if you are ovulating - they only tell you that you are getting ready to. It's the temps that confirm. If she really wants to see if you're ovulating and isn't interested in your charts, she should order 7dpo b/w.
I would say 99.99% of the time, a temp shift will confirm that you ovulated. I have heard one or two stories of someone who heard from someone that you can have a shift and not ovulate. I'm pretty sure it's very rare though.
This. Exactly.
Just my opinion...I think that if someone is ovulating and doesn't see a thermal shift, their temperatures are not accurate. (Not getting enough sleep, environmental factors, bad therm etc)
Hmm...good question. After you O your body starts releasing progesterone which is a heat inducing hormone which in turn elevates your body temp. My guess is that if you do O, but your temps don't reflect it or you barely have a thermal shift, it could be that your body isn't producing enough progesterone. ??? I really am not sure!
