Yucky BM!

I work full-time, and DS has taken expressed BM from a bottle since 7 weeks of age. He has never refused a bottle until today! On Mondays I thaw the oldest BM to rotate my stash since I don't pump on the weekend. Today he wouldn't take the BM. Nanny smelled it - didn't think it was spoiled but saved the last bottle for me. Didn't smell spoiled, so I tasted it. Yuck! Strong soapy aftertaste! I read on Kellymom that this can happen with freezing :( This has never been an issue before, but we just moved 1 month ago so I assume it is something with the freezer rather than my BM? If I had too much lipase i would have noticed before now, right? Will it make a difference if I buy a separate freezer? What about homemade babyfood mixed with BM in the freezer? WWYD?

Re: Yucky BM!

  • Taste some more before getting too worried.  I had this problem too.  While frantically trying to figure out how to fix it, DH admitted the freezer door had been left open.  It was only the oldest bags that had gone off, not the entire stash.
