Newborn diaper question...post from 3rd tri.

I have always heard good things about the Swaddlers, but my husband saw the Huggies with the umbilical cord cutout and is now convinced we need those.  Any suggestions as to what has worked well for you.  I know its different for everyone.  We are having a boy if that makes a difference.  Thanks ladies!

  • I used both. I did like the fact that with Huggies Newborn you did not have to fold them down due to the cut out.. I love the Huggies Natural ones!! they are soft as well.  I did not buy any diapers myself before hand. People came and visit me at the hospital brought me some diapers and the hospital sent me home with tons of diapers...

  • We liked the swaddlers

  • Swaddlers have an umbilical cut out as well for the Newborn and Preemie sizes.  We prefer Swaddlers when they are tiny, Huggies when they are older.

I wanted to add... we never used the cut out part anyway.  DD was 6 lbs 6 oz and tiny so we had to fold the diaper over to fit her.  So the cut out wasn't necessary.  Once we were able to put Newborns on her without folding them her belly button was perfectly fine... this only happened pretty recently.  She still fits in Newborn but we're using size 1's right now and we have to fold those over too.

  • Our hospital used Huggies Newborn, but we used Pampers swaddlers once we came home.  The umbilical cord will fall off within a week or two.  We just rolled down the pampers until this happened.

  • We used both and I prefer the Huggies until his cord falls out and then Swaddlers afterwards. They are just so much softer.

  • Our hospital uses swaddlers we use huggies at home and I like the huggies more.
  • Love Swaddlers!! We use those during the day and just recently we started using Pampers Baby Dry at night since they hold a bit more, but arn't as soft.

  • Had pampers at the hospital, but they made her butt all red, so switched to Huggies.  The cord cut out is nice, but on the pampers we just folded them down.
  • We prefer the Pampers Swaddlers, but perhaps you can get a small package of each and see which you like better once you are home?

  • We also use swaddlers.  The cord fell off at about 10 days old.  I didn't feel that rolling down the swaddlers until this happened was a big deal.

  • Its not that hard to fold the diaper down around the cord.  We used Pampers swaddlers and Huggies Pure & Natural.  They were both fine for DS.  Every baby is going to fit into diapers differently.  I agree just buy small packs.  Its less cost efficient, but cheaper then wasting a huge pack if they don;t work for you.
  • We use swaddlers newborn and they have the groove for the cord.

  • We used both. I liked the cutout that the Huggies had and thought I liked them, but opened a package of the swaddlers and they are SO much softer.  Now that DD is in a size three, I'm not thrilled with any of the diapers I have tried for her...
  • Swaddlers have a cutout on the preemie and newborn sizes as well. The cord falls of in 2 or 3 weeks, so its not a big deal. I like swaddlers better for newborns, they are SO much softer. I prefer huggies for older kids that move around more.

  • We use Swaddlers. We tried Huggies but they did not fit well on her body type at all.

  • Swaddlers...plus, you only have to worry abou the cord the first couple weeks then it falls off.
  • Huggies suck.

    Swaddlers Rock.

  • We used both and still had to fold over the Huggies, even with the cord cutout. I liked them both the same but am using Pampers now.
