If someone invites you over for pizza....

Do you offer $?  DH and I are split on this.  We are getting together with some new neighbors tonight.  They called last week and asked us over for pizza.  I say we do NOT offer $ because they invited us and I wouldn't want them to feel like they need to offer us $ if we invite them over next time.

DH says because it is pizza and not just a 'dinner' invite, that we should offer $.  FWIW, DH asked if we could bring anything, they said no, and he said he'd grab a 6 pack to bring over.

Re: If someone invites you over for pizza....

  • No. I would bring a bottle of wine (or in your case beer) instead.

Now, if were just me and my girlfriend (and kids), then yes, I would offer money.

  • I wouldn't offer money, I'd invite them over for pizza or something another time.

  • I agree with your DH. I'd bring beer, a salad, a dessert, something to complement the meal.

ETA: with the foods, I usually ask what I can bring and then when I'm told nothing I just say I'll bring __________ so they know to expect it.

  • No, I wouldn't offer money, but I would bring something.  Maybe even some little dessert type thing like rice krispie bars or cookies.  Nothing fancy.

  • If I was your neighbor I would feel insulted if you offered me money. Pizza is not expensive and you were invited as guests. Bring a salad to compliment it or drinks or dessert but since they invited you, do not offer money.
  • No, I would bring something to drink and/or dessert or salad to go with it.
  • Yes you offer because it's polite to do so but they should tell you no.
