Is it tacky to buy christmas/birthday presents off craigslist for your children?  has anyone done this?

Who cares??  Your kids won't know the difference.  I'm sure you will clean them up.  I think it's smart.

I wouldn't necessarily buy an adults gift of CL but kids think the presents come from Santa anyway

ditto all of this.  I'm actually selling a bunch of my girls Fisher Price stuff on craigslist.  I'm all for anything that saves a buck!

I bought a ton of liitle people last year for dd from cl.  I bought $300-$400 worth for $40. That is what dd got for her gifts.  I did find a set at target on clerance as well.
