Hello ladies!
Well I just had my first IUI on Saturday and now I am waiting!! I have gone through many many cycles of Clomid, Fermara and Ovidrel with timed intercourse. We are losing our insurance coverage at the end of November and told the doctor we wanted to do what would give us the best chances for our last shot.
What are your thoughts on IUI's and has anyone had success on their first cycle with the IUI? This wait has been way worst then any of the others due to knowing that if it doesn't work we are not going to be able to use any fertility treatments after this.
Thanks!!
Re: 1st IUI
I don't have any experience. I will do my first one this month, if all goes as planned. Did you use Clomid before your IUI? I don't ovulate, so I am on Clomid 100 mg in hopes I will ovulate.
But our insurance does not cover ANYTHING related to infertility. However, the IUI is only going to cost around $250, and then I think there are some additional lab costs for DH's stuff. So even if your insurance will no longer cover anything, is it possible for you to pay out of pocket, just taking it a month at a time?
I was using Clomid since Jan 09 so this cycle they put me on Gonal F an injectable drug. Yeah we could continue on our own out of pocket, but with the holidays right around the corner we will probably have to put it off for a couple of months.
We got preg on our second IUI but I think the first one didn't work because it was the first month I was using Clomid and it didn't really work as well.
I O on my own anyway - but DH has sub-fertile sperm so we only used it to up our chances.
I got 3 follicles the second time and that did the trick even with a low count sample from DH.
GOOD LUCK!!!
just curious what "sub-fertile" sperm means? My DH has low morphology (shape, he doesn't have a high # of swimmers that are the right shape), and slightly low motility, and a slightly low count. Just wondering what the difference is in sub-fertile sperm?
Oh you ladies give me so much hope! I am on my second round of Clomid (100 mg) and this will be my first IUI. I don't ovulate regularly. And DH's first SA came back with good sperm count, good morphology, but low volume (so it inevitably lowers the count anyway). We are praying that we don't have to do too many IUIs (or whatever else) because our insurance doesn't pay anything!
Keep us updated!
It means borderline. His numbers weren't low enough to fall into infertile category but didn't hit all the standards. His motility and count were fine but his morphology was mediocre.
