No offense taken! I do think Julia/Juliette will be shortened to Julie/Jule/Jules by the time she's in the 3rd grade. so if you hate the nns, you should take that into consideration.
I think it's a beautiful name, personally. It's timeless, and I don't think it will ever sound dated.
I will admit, though, that I sometimes have had a difficult time keeping the Julies and the Julias in my life straight, though. (There were a handful in college!)
I have cousin who I'm close with named Julia and a good friend. No one has ever called either of them Julie. I think it's pretty. My cousin gets called Jules sometimes by the family but I think that's cute.

I think of Julia Gulia from The Wedding Singer (not a bad association at all) and that's the nn I'd call her (at least in private)
