My friend had a baby about 1 year ago. He was premature and 4 lbs. at birth. At one year he was 17lbs. I thought it was really tiny when she told me. I told her the weight of my DD at 4 months (13 lbs) and she was like she is a chunky little girl. WTF?
Re: Do you think this is a low weight for a 1 year old?
my mom says i was 17 lbs at 1 yr. i was EBF. i was like 10th or 5th % for weight and 80th or so for height.
i have a friend with a little girl born Feb. 2008, and she was 21 lbs in September. now that is little. i think she was 5th% weight and 90th for height.
I was only 19 lbs at 1 year and I was 6 lbs 2 oz at birth. I was short, still am, and just really small. My cousin's baby is 10 months and 16 lbs, she isn't a very good eater though.
DS goes for his 4 month appointment tomorrow, but he was 15 lbs at 3 months so I'm thinking he is probably 18 or 19 lbs. So I guess she would think he is chunky too.
so if he was a preemie, he's going to be on the low end of the growth charts anyway (at least for a while). what's his adjusted age?
i mean, yeah, that's small, but as long as their pedi isn't concerned i don't see what the big deal is.
and, um, 13 lbs at four months isn't a chunky little girl. it's, what, 50th%? my dd is 13 lbs also.
DD is going to be a big one year old. She is 19lbs at 5 months.
That does sound tiny for a one year old though. I am not sure how preemies are supposed to gain though!
I would say so, after all my DS weighs more than he does and DS is 4 months. At DS' two month pedi appt he was 15 lbs and I was worried that he was too big. Pedi said he'd worry if DS was one.
ETA: I should ask my mom how much I weighed at a year since I was a micro preemie.
Every baby is different.
DS is 6 months and is in the 95th for weight and I think 80th for height. He is bigger than the 'average' one year old.
DS was born at 5 lbs so a bit bigger than your friend's child. I'm taking it that you are a bit offended that she called your child 'chunky'. But I bet she said that to defend what she perceived as offensive comments about her child being 'too small'.
Mommas take the nutrition and growth of their babies seriously lol
