Trouble TTC

charting and opk question

I just started charting this cycle as I have pcos and suspect I may not ovulate. Today is day 25 and still no O. I also started using an OPK this cycle and, to my surprise since it's so late in my cycle, it was positive today. Can you have a positive OPK and still not ovulate?

Re: charting and opk question

  • OPK are not accurate if you have PCOS. My RE told me not to waste money on them. Are you on Metformin to help regulate your levels? Are you seeing an RE or OBGYN?

  • My PCP diagnosed me with PCOS several years ago and put me on Metformin.  About a year later, my OB/GYN said that I don't have PCOS and told me to stop taking the Metformin.  However, she didn't do any tests and told me that if I was bleeding at all each month, I don't have PCOS.  I explained to her that my periods are extremely light - basically only spotting for about two days, and then it's over.  She said this didn't matter, and that I don't have PCOS.  So I went off the Metformin, but was skeptical that the OB/GYN was correct.  I wasn't considering TTC any time soon, though, so I decided to just not worry about it until I started thinking about having kids.

So I'm not even sure I have PCOS.  I'm also not working with anyone yet regarding fertility.  We aren't even actively TTC yet (not preventing, but I just started charting).  I thought I'd chart for a few months and then go see a doctor if my ovulation isn't "normal."  I doubt my insurance covers a RE, so I'll start with my OB/GYN (but will find a new one, as I have had several issues with the one I've been using).

  • Good luck! Sounds like you have a good plan. Most company insurance cover diagnostic testing.
