Babies: 9 - 12 Months

BF question....lopsided!

Hello ladies, I am mostly a lurker but trust your wonderful advice and I have a stupid question for you.

My son is 9 months old and has been BF from the beginning.  I EBF for 6 months and then started solids. Since then my baby has rejected one side. Will not take it.  I was pumping on that side but my pump is on it's last limb and I am planning on only BF until a year and I wouldn't even mind stopping a bit sooner (just want to get thru flu season). So I have just been feeding him on the one side and now I am completely lopsided!

I take him to work with me so most of the time it isn't too noticeable but when I am away from him it is SO noticeable and embarrassing.  I would buy another pump but I sure would hate to do that for only a couple more months.

Anyone else experience this?  And what did you do?  I guess my main concern is he getting enough from the one side?

Your body adjusts to your LO's needs. IF your LO is demanding milk only from the breast, then i think that breast will do double the work to meet your lo's needs.  As far as a pump goes, can you invest in a decent hand pump?  the Avent Isis really works well for me.

  • I have a lopsided nurser and my body adjusted. When I'm engorged it's noticeable, but that doesn't happen very oftern. I can even go away for half a day without a problem now.

  • Angie, that is a good idea!  I didn't even think about a manual pump! Duh! I've been spoiled too long I suppose and actually forgot they even existed for a minute. I was imagining having to pay $100+ Thanks!

JAWMIN- Glad to know that I'm not alone and thanks both of you for reassuring me that I'm giving him enough milk! :)
