**Stella**

(or anyone else who might know)

I am setting up some interviews with pedi and since I am not getting the H1N1 so I thought about wearing a mask when I go to the offices- but really whats the logic behind it? Do they help? Is the idea that they ilter out the germs? (I was up last night thinking about this for like 2 hours...)

  • I'll butt in -

I read that they help - not so much for filtering out anything but for not allowing you to touch your mouth with dirty hands.

  • When we have swine flu patients we have 2 different kinds of masks we wear. There is the basic mask which is kosher when you are not in direct contact with them (in your case) and a more expensive mask used when patients are intubated and you are doing a deep suctioning (which doesn't pertain to you). When researching this at work I have learned that you have to be within so many feet of a person to be able to catch this. With lots of people out there coughing and hacking though it might not be a bad idea if you are worried.
