Best rocker/glider reccs?

Hey ladies---

Looking for recommendations for a rocker/glider, I love the full rocker style (not the glider with the exposed wood) and am trying to find quality without spending >$400. However, if you have one that is a little more that you just LOVE, just let me know!

Re: Best rocker/glider reccs?

  • We actually got a leather rocker/recliner at The Dump and I LOVE it. The seat is wider than some of the rocker/gliders we tried out, so dd and I can curl up very comfortably in it.

  • Ditto the recliner.  We had one from the living room that I put in the nursery and it was the best decision ever!!  There was plenty of room, it was comfortable for feeding and sleeping.  I think I slept in there for a month as I was scared I wouldn't hear the monitor!  Smile  The great thing is now that I don't *need* it in there, it's great for the gameroom.

  • We got a Lane leather rocker/recliner form Dillards (they happen to be the largest distributor of Lane chairs in Texas BTW)

I really wanted a pretty upholstered glider and ottoman but I'm tall and those were just way too low for me. Plus, the soft cushy all leather chair we purchased was cheaper in the long run and can be used somewhere else when we're finished.

  • we got recliner style from a baby store, and could have just bought a 'regular' one at a 'regular' store. it would probably have been a better deal. the oversized-ness of it is perfect, must more comfy for both me and DH than one of the wooden gliders would have been. plus room for DD to sit with me during storytime as she gets bigger!

get something with ah high back. you want to be able to rest the back of your head completely on a soft surface. i think everyone sleeps in the chair in their baby's room from time to time, whether they mean to or not :)

  • I absolutely LOVE mine (although it's more than $400).  Originally, we were going to get a Dutailier glider, but I am so glad we went with an upholstered rocker instead.  Ours was made with a deeper seat and taller back which I'm now thankful we did since I spend ALOT of time in the chair feeding and cuddling.  I think you'll be glad you have decided to get a comfier chair...especially if you end up falling asleep in the nursery.

  • I was able to find a Best rocker & ottoman at Weir's in the clearance section (Southlake Weir's).  The upholstery matched the nursery perfect and the scale was perfect to the room.  I spent a LOT of time in that chair those early weeks - I still rock DS to sleep in it every night.  I think it was maybe around $400, maybe a bit more.
  • Great ideas, thanks! I hadn't even thought of checking into "regular" rocker/recliners at the normal furniture stores. I got spoiled when I sat in a $1200+ one at a high-end baby store in New Orleans...
