Babies: 9 - 12 Months

7 Month old not sleeping :(

Hello everyone!! I am Ashley and I am new at the nest, if it is anything like the knot.com I will love it!!

I wanted to give and intro and ask for some parenting opinions... I have a 7 month old baby.. Emma and she is all of a sudden waking up 3-4 times a night. Shes not hungry, she dont want to play, all she does is cry untill we go in a comfort her. We thought it was teething but she has both of her bottom teeth already in. Could it be teething agian?

We have tried everything to get her to sleep all nigt, rice bottles, bath, story, even when she is really fussy before bed ime we have given her tylenol... nothing works. Any suggestions on getting a 7 month old to sleep all night long?

Re: 7 Month old not sleeping :(

  • Could be more teething.  Has she started doing anything "new" lately?  Sometime when they hit some developmental milestones they have trouble sleeping for a while but it goes back to all night after a while.

I would just comfort her as much as you can without picking her up if possible and let her put herself back to sleep.  When you let them get up, feed them, etc. you're rewarding the behavior and hey - being up with mommy and daddy is definately more fun than sleeping!

  • No real advice but I have empathy. DD is having a similar problem right now. She used to sleep 5-6 with no problem. Now she wakes up at 2-3 for at least half an hour. She will take the bottle but we usually have to let her CIO to get her back to sleep. She has both bottom teeth but she might be getting new ones. I hope both of our darlings get over it soon.

  • Thanks! We have tried to just let her try to fall back asleep but she is pulling up and crawling and It makes me nervous to leave her unattended in her crib. So of course i go in the tell her good night go back to sleep and she usually does, but she wakes up like 2 hours again and we have to do the same thing over again. I hope she is just goign through a thing right now. She use to sleep all night long since she was 1 month old she slept all night, then she started teething and it went down hill from there.
  • Welcome to the 6-9 month wakeful period. It sucks asss, but there's hope. Just in the last week have we finally ended 3 months of pure hell.

There's not much that can be done. You can try putting LO to bed earlier, but it's not a guarentee. They're learning so much during that time, and they sometimes have teeth trying to pop through- their brains are firing off millions of messages at once. Hang in there. It gets better eventually. GL

  • My son also had a major sleep regression during 6-9 months. How long has this been going on? If you're talking a few days or a week you might want to consider an ear infection. It's happened twice with DS where his sleeping got really bad and doc said sometimes ear infections are worse at night when baby lays down. He had no other symptoms at all.
