Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Wacky hormones after d&c?

Quick back story:  Found out we had a missed m/c on Oct. 3 @ 12 weeks (baby passed at 10 1/2-11 weeks). I wanted to try and have a natural m/c. Finally ended up having d&c on Oct. 26 because my cervix just would not open.

Are my hormones supposed to be all over the place? I'm happy, then I'm crying, then I'm yelling and angry, then I'm laughing, then I'm anxious... etc, etc.  I feel like I'm nuts!  It's like PMS times 20.  My doc just said to expect some slight bleedng and cramping, but she didn't metion anything about hormones. Just curious if this is normal.

Thanks!

Re: Wacky hormones after d&c?

  • Absolutely, this is normal.  Your hcg level, which causes all of those weird PG emotions in the first place, has gone from crazy high to pretty low in the span of a couple days.  It will take a while to feel normal again.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I hope you're feeling ok after the D&C.

  • Thanks for the reply. And thank you so much for the concern!

Hubby and I are doing well. It's been almost a month since we found out about the m/c so we've had time to deal with the loss.  We're obviously very sad, but we're trying to keep positive and not let it consume us, you  know? The absolute worst part about the whole thing for me was getting a u/s the day before the d&c and seeing the baby still there. It really was the most awful feeling I've had so far. The d&c itself went very well. I have some spotting and a little cramping but physically I'm doing great.  Emotionally I'm a wreck right now and the hormones don't help. lol

  • My hormones are still out of wack... If I give a squeeze, I still have a little milk. It also took about 2 months pp for the hotflashes to stop.

    It is all normal.

    Hang in there... (((hugs)))

  • Yes--it's exactly how I described it--PMS times 10 (or whatever number you want to use).  I had been warned of the hormone crash--and thought I would be weepy--but I was a raging b*tch at the drop of a hat.
  • My hormones have been seriously all over the place this last week. I do think it's normal, but it really sucks! I cried in the shower this morning because my hair dye was rinsing out and the water was pink, (I dyed my hair red) it reminded me of the day I miscarried. And it's been 2 weeks today I found out the baby had passed.

  • Yes- mine are all over the place and I expect they will be for a while. But please know you have company and can vent here anytime you want. The ladies here are great. I am sorry for your loss.
