High-Risk Pregnancy

Labetalol?

Anyone on labetalol for blood pressure management of pre-e? How are you dealing with the meds? How are you being monitored by your docs? Dealing with pre-e post baby and wanted to see if anyone has had any similiar experiences.

Re: Labetalol?

  • I've been on labetalol for a couple years now as I had high BP pre-pg.  During the pregnancy I stayed on on it and just recently my doc upped it from 100mg 3 times a day to 200 mg 2 times a day.  My BP has been FINE this entire time but up till my GD dx, I was seeing him every two weeks to monitor the BP as well as taking it three times a day at home/work.  Now I go in once a week.

Sorry, I realize this probably doesn't really help you out but just wanted to say that I've been on it for a while and have had no issues with it and it has helped.

  • I am on Aldomet for high blood pressure during pregnancy, I was perfect for pre-p, but once I got pregnant my blood pressure spiked!  It has helped a ton, I am pretty much back to normal...and the headaches and dizzyness are gone...THANK GOD!

    Good luck!

  • My bp was a little elevated at 38 weeks so I was induced.  After I had dd my blood pressure was HIGH.  I was given 100mg labetalol 2x a day then 200 2x a day. It took three months to get it under control.  I was sent to a cardiologist and he took over the meds.  I was to just monitor it at home. It started getting low so they gradually lowered the dose.  I hope your goes down quickly.

  • I've been on it since 14 weeks for high BP.  I'm the oddball that got high BP in the first tri, YAY me.  I am on 100 mg 2x a day and I have finally gotten used to it.  It made me so tired to begin with and dizzy.  I told my OB and he told me it's normal and around the time I'm tired of being pregnant these side effects would probably go away.  It also makes my scalp tingle, but only if I'm in the sun.  It's controlled by BP perfectly though.  I go in Friday for my monthly appointment so I'm hoping all is still good.
  • I was on it with DD. I went to doc every 2 weeks and called in readings (used one of those bp machines at pharmacies) on the off weeks. My dosage got doubled a week before I had DD. Ended up being induced (bp 167/110) at 38 weeks. Was on labetalol for 6 weeks post partum as my bp did not drop until then.
