Hi everyone: I'm planning for which baby gear I'll need to help entertain two twin boys. I know I'll want a play gym eventually, but wasn't sure when the babies will be ready to play in one. Should I buy the gym now or wait until they're older?
When did your twins start using the play gym? Did they both fit in one at once, or did you get two?
If anyone can recommend a good gym, I'd really appreciate that too! Thanks for your help.
Re: When do babies start using play gyms?
We had a Tiny Love playmat that was discontinued, but I like all their play mats!
You can really start using the play mat at any time--just lying the baby on it and letting them look at the toys. It probably becomes more useful around 6-8 weeks when they can see a little better and are a little less sleepy. I would go ahead and get one now unless you're trying to spread out expenses.
I think they vary in size so I can't say for sure if both babies would fit on one. With most play gyms, I would think they would. By the time they're rolling over, you'll want two.
We had the Baby Einstein one with the star at the top that has lights in motion and plays music. My girls loved this mat, it was so helpful to me once they became much more alert at about 6-8 weeks of age. The loved to watch the lights on that star move around to the music. It has a motion sensor on it, so when it would stop playing I could just tap if with my foot and it would start to play again. So I could feed one and entertain the other, or just get a bite to eat for 5 min. without holding a baby. My girls did not like the bouncy seats or a swing at all so this mat was a life saver for me.
Both girls fit on this activity gym until they were about 6 months old, that is when my one girls started log rolling all over the place, so she usually just rolled off the mat and across the room once I put her down on it with her sister.
