Is it better to be dilated or really effaced?? I am confused cause I'm 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced with my stitches coming out on Monday and I was told I might not see November as a pregnant woman. But then I read on here that a lot of women are dilated and not close to labor. I'm just confused!

I don't think this question can really be answered.  I was 70% effaced and 0cm last week and haven't had anything happen. 

My cousin was 1cm and 0% effaced for two weeks before she went into labor.

it doesnt' matter either way and neither predicts how much longer you'll be pregnant for

I'm not sure if one is better than the other. I'm 0 cm (as of last week, didn't have an internal this week) and 75% effaced. My doctor said thinning out is the hardest part, so being 75% effaced is good.

I don't think there is an answer to this question.  At 38 weeks, 4 days I was 1 cm and 50% and my doctor said that's "fine progress" - whatever the heck that means.  He also said he doesn't put much stock into predicting how quickly you will go into labor from those numbers because they can change so quickly or not so quickly.
