I am from the Northwest Surburbs and am looking for a venue for my daughters 1st birthday in January. Any ideas on where I can rent a private clubhouse or cabin, etc.  It's going to be a daytime Saturday event. I heard the Carousel room in ElkGrove was nice, but that books a year in advance. Crazy huh??!!  I've been searching all the park districts and can't seem to find anything. Please help!!!

Some restaurants have party rooms (can't think of specific ones off the top of my head, but ask at some of your favorites).  If you have any friends living in a condo complex, you could ask them about clubhouses at their site.

Several suburbs (Palatine and Buffalo Grove come to mind) have American Legion Halls, though I'm not sure whom you ask to rent those - probably someone in the village office if the Park District wasn't able to help.

Something different (but not cheap) for your guests might be the Coco Key Water Park in the Arlington Heights Sheraton (next to Arlington Park).  They rent "private cabanas" in the water park for groups.  Might be a fun place to celebrate a January birthday with temperature controlled artificial sunshine.  I live across the street and am constantly tempted to try it, but I've always chickened out on the expense.
