Ugh. They never sent me a "bill" for the $212 fine for speeding (8 mph above speed limit, mind you.

) So today I got a "collections" notice in the mail, with an add'l 300 bucks tagged-on for "late fee". AHHHHHHHH! I called them and they said, "We don't have to send you a bill. You are supposed to come to court." Hey, I've had my fair share of fines over my lifetime (went to college in Los Angeles for many years...) and they always send you a bill to pay. Never got one. Now they say, "We don't have to." I think it's their ploy to get more $$$ out of our pockets without a darn thing we can do about it. Our city soooo needs the $. I know it's totally my fault I got the ticket to begin with. Anyhow, okay, vent over.
Re: I now have 512 new reasons why not to speed.
That's a crazy high fine and late fee! I got a speeding ticket (16 over) last Dec. and the total was only around $160!
We don't get bills though. They hand you the ticket and there is a number to call on the back if you're not going to appear in court. When you call the number they'll tell you how to calculate the fine.
