Mumble "thank you" and walk away really fast in fear.

(one of my FB friends told a woman this yesterday.  She's totally non-creepy looking and totally meant it as a compliment.)

It would depend on the situation, but at Home Depot during the day where it's likely another mom, I'd probably be thrilled.

I get complimented on my clothes and hair color sometimes. And I try to compliment other people that look nice or have something cute on, so I don't think it is *that* different.
