Babies: 0 - 3 Months

any 2 1/2 month old BF babies out there still getting up every 2-3 hours

I kind of wonder if my LO is going through a growth spurt, but I am seriously ready to poke my eyes out.  He seemed to be doing well a week or so ago and it seemed like he was starting to head til every 3-4 hours and then the last 4-5 days he is up every 2-3 hours and really wants to eat.  my god he doesn't just snack he chows down.  He is not a small baby either at his 2 month he was over 12lbs and 24 inches.

Help, am I alone here?

  • DD does one four to five hour stretch at first and then 2-3 hours the rest of the night.  She is only 8 pounds, though at 2 1/2 months.

  • he varies. 2 nights ago, he went to bed at 9, was up at 3, and then up at 7 for the day. last night, he went to bed at 9, was up at 1, 4, and then 7.
  • Oh my goodness, you poor thing.  2 and a half months of that is completely exhausting!!!

DD is EBF, and she's sleeping through the night (essentially).  I put her down around 8 or so, and she sleeps until 5.  Then I feed her and she goes back down for 2-3 hours.

This.  Only DS was 14lbs at his 2 mon appt!  I thought once he put on weight he was stop, but no... DS LOVES to eat!

  • You are NOT alone, my LO did the exact same thing! He was sleeping in two four hour stretches a night and I was in heaven! Then he started regressing and was up every freaking hour, and now he's up about every two to two and a half hours at night. I'm hoping it was a 3 month growth spurt and he'll be back to two four hour stretches again. Mama needs her sleep!

  • You are not alone.  My son just started having 4 to 5 hour stretches last week.  Of course this weekend he was back to every two to three hours, but last night was another good night.  Seems like it is a few steps forward and then a step back for us.   I see more STTN on these boards than I see in life and I know lots of other moms with more than one child.

I think that this is important to remember.  It's normal for babies to not be STTN until 6 months +.  It's just that no one is going to AW the fact that their LO was up every 3 hours, so there is a skewed assumption about STTN this young.

  • Well, my little guy is just 2 months old and only this week are we seeing stretches longer than 3 hours (we got 4, then 5 , then 6 and then was back at 3 for a few days-- but got another 5 hr stretch last night.) Now you have me worried that he's going to revert back in a few weeks!! :) I hope he's just going through a growth spurt for you and it ends soon- it's exhausting, I know.

  • I feel exactly the same way you do OP!! My DD wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat and she CHOWS down. She was 5 weeks early and at her 2 month check up she weighed almost 10lbs and 23 inches long. She's an eater that's for sure!! And to think that the nurses told me she probably wouldn't BF because she was so early- boy were they wrong!!

She barely sleeps at night and takes NO naps during the day. That's right NO naps!! She's up from 6a-10p!! I've tried everything to get her to sleep but she's wide awake. Right now she's on a playmat on the floor, talking to the animals on the mobile above her :) It's pretty cute but damn mommy needs some sleep. I go back to work on Friday and am afraid I will totally exhausted! I work 12 hour shifts so this just might cause me to go gray early :)
  • Some nights our LO gets up twice a night but for the most part she is pretty mellow.
