Pregnant after 35

When did you set up the nursery?

I'm starting to think about rearranging to make room for baby. We need to find and order one piece of furniture (dresser/change table), then spend a day lugging stuff out and rearranging the room, setting up the crib again, etc.

When did you set up the nursery? And what was your goal for getting it done? I kind of don't want to think about it until 30+ weeks, but I know that if I'm not careful, we'll be bringing baby home to what is basically our junk room and tossing her in a crib beside my dresser...

What's your plan?

Re: When did you set up the nursery?

  • With my DD I think we had the nursery complete around 30-32 weeks. The last thing was the crib and dresser..but the rest was complete by 30 weeks. I am one of those that would rather do it early then wait till the last minute (just in case)!!! Big Smile

This time around might take us a bit longer as we are making our office the new nursery so we have to clean it out first before we can do anything.

  • We haven't really started yet, except for trying to clean out that bedroom.  It was full of furniture and boxes of junk from moving last year.  We've moved out the extra furniture, and now we're clearing out the junk.  We hope to have it totally cleared out by Thanksgiving, although we probably won't have the furniture delivered until sometime in December.
  • she'll be rooming in the office so there's not too much to set up. we're in a brand new condo so the paint is yellow and new (pretty perfect).  she'll have 1/2 the room which is currently lined with boxes of who knows what. we have the crib, in its box, sitting in the living room now. we need to still get a dresser so once that happens, we can clear out her side of the room and set things up... the goal is to get this done sooner than later as time is NOT slowing down for us at all!

  • We don't really have a nursery.  Baby will sleep in a bassinet in our master bedroom for the short term then eventually move into the guest bedroom. I'll use the bed in there as changing table etc. and just stick a crib in there when we get one in a few months.

But with relatives coming in and out for the holidays, I can't justify losing the use of that room for a newborn.   Kid doesn't need fancy decor and that kind of stuff at this point, anyway.

  • Room's been painted, furniture's been purchased (and delivered this weekend) Lots to still do, but I feel like we've got a good start.  I wanted to be done sooner rather than later because I can help more now than I could later...besides, with the holidays later, there will be travel and all sorts of other things to do.
  • We started buying things (crib, mattress, dresser, etc.) after our 20 wk. anatomy scan.  Depending on where you purchase things, it can take quite a few weeks for delivery. It also takes awhile to rearrange the room and get all your accessories together. It's still a work in progress for us, but our goal is to have the nursery pretty much done by the time we have our shower.
