NT questions

So I got m NT results back and they were very good.?

I'm a little confused about what comes next. ?I think they take more blood at 16wks. When they do that, does that recalculate my risk? Is that combined with another u/s or is it just more blood work?

At what point should I feel comfortable with these results???

The second tri screen (AFP) is just bloodwork. I didn't get a risk assessment for that one - I was just told it was negative.

 

As to when you should feel comfortable- well, that's an individual thing. I felt comfortable after my NT scan. I just got the AFP done to check for any spinal concerns.

They'll take bloodwork, if you're getting that as well, and that may modify your numbers.  After that, there's the 20-week anatomy scan, then the glucose screen.  It seems like there's always another test around the corner.

I think 16 weeks is the amnio if that's what you want to do. We opted out fo the amnio. I've had blood drawn several times so I'm not sure if once was at 16 weeks. For me, because I'm high risk due to pre-pg high blood pressure, I was getting u/s at every appt till just recently so they've been able to really keep track of development ... I do think the "big" u/s at around 20 weeks (every doc's office is different) when you can find out sex if you want is when they confirm everything - heart, brain, etc.

Personally, we took our good results and ran with them... GL!

This sounds like the same testing sequence I had.  An ultrasound at 12 weeks, blood taken at the same time.  Risk numbers reported a few days later.  Blood taken again at 16 weeks, all three looked at together (NT scan, and 2 blood draws) then another set of "final" numbers given.  At that time my doctor was happy with the results (as was I) and we decided no further testing would be done.  Then at 20 there is an anatomy scan that further looks for problems.   Hope this helps - and Congratulations!!!

My first appointment at 12 weeks was a super short u/s (2 mins.) and blood work.

I go back at 16 weeks for another round of blood work and a longer u/s (doctor called it an "anatomy scan").

No one else I know had the second u/s, which is weird.  But, my results so far are normal, and the doctor said that they always do the NT scan this way.  I'm not complaining...I thought I'd have to wait until 20 weeks for another u/s! I'm glad I get to see our peanut another time!

thanks for the responses.

i am happy with my results now, not sure what i'd do if the risk goes UP with the 16w bloodwork.

at this point i do NOT plan on doing amnio.?
