Pregnant after 35

Did anyone conceive 1st cycle after MC/D&C

I had a d&c a few weeks ago & was so surprised that AF arrived 1 day earlier than what my normal cycle would have been, just 3&1/2 weeks after the mc/d&c.  I'm wondering if any of you conceived after your first period, right after a miscarriage &/or d&c.  I'm in my late 30s & I'm so worried about my biological clock!   Is your first thought that we should we wait til next cycle? Please share your honest thoughts. I don't want to call my doc about it for some reason, because I know how busy he is at the university hospital and this is probably a ridiculous question that I have.   I think every doctor will tell us something different anyway so I'm curious to know what you all think, & the good & bad experiences that you've had.

Thank you!

Me: 42, DH: 43. We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)! Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue. Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th. Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...

Re: Did anyone conceive 1st cycle after MC/D&C

  • Hi -

I conceived the month after a m/c at age 42!!! (I also had one within prior within the year.) My dr said it was ok to keep trying due to my age..otherwise she would have recommended a couple of months of waiting.

     Good luck!

  • We conceived our 1st cycle after a natural m/c (blighted ovum @ 9.5 wks). We weren't officially "trying" that month, but were pleasantly surprised with a BFP.

BTW - I'm 38 & this will be our 1st baby.  I fully understand the pressures of the clock, but if additional time is needed for healing after your D&C, another month or two wait might be well worth the wait. You might want to check with your doctor just to be sure.  He shouldn't mind the call at all, and this is absolutely a good question to ask.

    GL!

  • I actually got pregnant 3 weeks after my early m/c before my AF. Could not believe it myself was actually not trying, one slip up. It was a good thing so far. Wink
  • We waited one cycle at OB's suggestion and got PG the first cycle trying.  My AF showed up pretty much on schedule after the m/c as well, so GL!
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • No me personally, but my sister's best friend did.  In fact, she never had a period after her M/C D&C.  She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in July.  Because she didn't have a cycle, the docs were guessing on due date and she ended up having the baby a couple of weeks later than expected, but she was a perfectly healthy baby girl!

  • We are TTC ASAP.  My Doc said that you are "physically" able to conceive once you have period.  Whether or not you are emotionally ready is entirely another situation.  We are and are trying...  Here's to hoping it worked...

Best wishes to you and your family.

  • We conceived our 2nd the month following my m/c - I never got my 1st period... my doctor wanted me to wait 1 cycle & was on Clomid - so figured we would not get pregnant ; )

  • I had a MC at 6 weeks naturally We conceived this time on my first regular cycle. I am 36.  The first go around we charted, tempted, ovulation pee sticks and then agreed to wait a few months after the MC before starting all that up again.  we would just go at it like the normal horn dogs that we are. In the back of my mind I was not very happy with this decision since yes my clock was thudding in the back of my head, but it is a team effort and so I went along with it. The next cycle I did get pregnant again. I am now at the end of my 7th week.  my doctor appointment is next Friday.  One thing to remember is that you DID get pregnant and so there is no real reason it wont happen again.

     Good Luck!
