felt squares  cut into front feathers and glued on. You could sew it on easy.

I'm making the body like the pbk costumes (Rory was the giraffe last year, and I loved the simplicity and comfort of it), and attaching wings and feathers sort of like that second pic, but I cut them as scallops out of felt.
