eczema

I thinking this year is the worst for eczema??  My daughter has very dry skin (thank you hubby) and just looks like it has to be painful/itchy.  She gets a bath every 3days with a Aveno soap.  Then I lather her up with the Aveno lotion and Aquaphor and sometimes hydrocortizone cream.  Any other suggestions out there?  She has her next well baby check coming up in acouple of weeks so I guess i can ask him too.

Re: eczema

  • DD's eczema was really bad a couple of weeks ago, with the weather changing. Aquaphor made things worse, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cerave. They sell it at CVS. I get the big white pump bottle with the blue label. It works better than the Aveno. Definitely bring it up with your pedi because he may be able to prescribe a steroid for her. I wasn't happy about having to use an RX on her, but its better than her scratching at it and getting infected.

  • DS was just diagnosed with eczema a few weeks ago. It's only on one side of his face but it looks so bothersome (not to mention my baby's perfect little face being all red and rashy bothers ME). I've been putting hydrocortizone cream if it gets really bad. Last night I gave him a little benadryl and it seemed to help also.

  • with the weather change DS is starting to get an eczema rash on his belly. He gets a bath on M-W-F only. I use Dove sensitive body wash on him since bar soap can be drying and I lub him up with Cetaphil lotion. We also have Cortaid for the really dry areas and we do use Aquaphor as well at times. I am not looking forward to winter. Well I will just have to lub him up in the am and again before goign to bed.

  • We use this. We put it on DD on her dry spots throughout the day, and we only use california baby or nature's baby soaps on her (less irritants than other soaps). It really helps keep in under control.
  • We would put a little cortisone cream on the really red spot, then we'd put Crisco on top.  It acts the same way as Aquaphor, but is much cheaper.  Our ped. recommended we use Dove soap for her baths. These really helped.

  • Have you seen a dermatologist yet? Our dermatologist prescribed EpiCeram and we've seen a HUGE improvement over the past few months. We still do a steroid cream at the sign of a flare up (up to 2 times per day, twice a week), fragrance-free everything (including wipes) and lather him in aquaphor. But the EpiCeram (non-steroidal) is making a big difference.
  • DS's derm said NO Aveno.  They recommended Cerave and unscented Dove bar soap, which we rarely use any soap at all.  He also has an rx for triamcinalone for super rashy days.  I also give him a 1/2 tsp Claritin everyday.  We bathe every night in lukewarm water...no scrubbing, pat dry.  It also helps to not let him get too hot ever.
