Nut allergies question...

DS had Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets when we were traveling in August.  Since the nuggets are cooked in peanut oil, and he didn't have a reaction, would you think he's fine with nuts?  We don't have any nut allergies in our families.  Also, our pedi said he's probably been exposed to nuts already as a lot of things from bakeries, delis, etc oftentimes use shared equipment.

Thoughts?  Smile

Re: Nut allergies question...

  • THAT'S hot pressed ooil, so it eliminates the allergens in it.

not a good indicator of whether or not he'd be allergic to nuts.

  • Check out the PSA post below....allergic reactions don't always happen the first exposure....however I do agree with your Dr...nuts can be found in a lot of bakery goods etc, but that doesn't mean that he's actually been exposed.

What if he had some of my lunch today that had pine nuts in the sauce?  I didn't give him one, but they were cooked with the ravioli.

  • tree nuts are a different allergy than peanuts. also, as pp suggested, it may take 2-3 exposures to something for a body to react to an allergen.

    hth!

    this.
My DS is allergic to both peanuts and tree nuts.  Tree nuts are also things that are in the same family--so even peaches he reacts to (and could to apricot, prunes, etc).
