I wasn't surprised when the ped said no PB or tree nuts until 2 years, but I was surprised by shellfish. I remember friends of ours feeding their daughter shrimp at 15 months. and we have no food allergies in my family, so that can't be why.
Did anyone's ped tell them no shellfish? Just curious.
Re: No shellfish until 2 years, anyone else?
Mine didn't mention this at all. I've given Evan seafood in general and he's had no problem.
I've also read they don't recommend giving them any "wild game" meats until after age 2 but I broke that one too. We eat the venison my DH hunts as one of our core staples. And Evan LOVES venny!
Mine too. DD loves shrimp. She won't eat any kind of meat but she loves seafood...figures she'd have expensive taste. And she got her first PB&J the week of her birthday! It's her primary source of protein since she likes her strictly vegetarian lifestyle!
This. DD had shrimp at around 15 months. I was super paranoid that night but no reaction...we don't have any food allergies in our family either.
I've only heard 1 year. DD has had peanuts, well peanut butter & has had no reaction. She has had fish but not shellfish & has had no reaction.
DH is allergic to shellfish so I'm nervous & keep a close eye on her when she eats anything new.
Our pedi is super cautious b/c he told us NO, not only to shellfish but to any fish. I'm not saying I'm going to listen but that's what he said.
pedi gave the ok after a year
ds has been having seafood since 12mos and loves it. i can get him to eat scallops and shrimp before chicken and pork
as long as your family doesnt have allergies there isnt a benefit in delaying those foods ... well, thats what pedi says.
