I had mouth surgery wednesday and was put under general anesthesia. I was supposed to start my period either yesterday or today (it varies between 27 and 28 days) and so far I had 3 dark spots on my underwear, which is very unusual because when I start my period it is VERY heavy. When I wipe there is the faintest color pink but if you aren't looking for it you wouldn't notice it. However, if I were to put a tampon in there is a very, very, small amount of redder looking blood. Since I am never late and my periods do not start out like this I am trying to find out if the anesthesia and pain medicine could have an affect on it or not? The surgery itself was a simple procedure so it was not very stressful. Thank you for your help! Also, if it does not start tomorrow I plan on taking a pregnancy test monday morning just to be sure, I just wanted some thoughts and opinions first
Re: late period or effects of anesthesia?
Stress can delay ovulation, but it cannot delay your period, which will come 10-16 days after you ovulate. Therefore, the affects of anestesia wouldn't have delays your period since you think that you ovulated over a week ago.
Your period can change at any time. It is not unusual to have a period that is different than all your others.
Your period might just be delayed if yoru ovulation was late. Your ovulation could be delayed for no reason at all.
It is not too early to test if your period is late. You can take a test now.
Finally, without charting your basal body temperature, or at least using opks, you cannot know when you ovulated. And if you don't know when you ovulated you cannot know if your period is really late or if you just ovulated late.
good luck.
