we went to a 4-part class. First was stages of labor and body changes during pregnancy, second was what to do during labor (relaxation techniques, etc) third was post-partum and cesarean educaiton, and last nights was newborn care.
Ours through the hospital was really great. We opted to take it once on a Saturday instead of splitting it up. In our class we went through pregnancy to the stages of labor, she told us what to expect throughout each as well as all of our options during each stage. We took a hospital tour, and did a little bit of breathing exercises, and took a nap after lunch lol. My boyfriend loved it and it made him feel a part of everything and he was really excited to learn everything.
We took a three-part class as well. I like that because it didn't drag for months, and it also wasn't crammed in a day and we could go back and ask questions. The first day was kind of an overview of labor, and we saw 'the video'. We also went over what is helpful to bring and what is not. Our teacher was great and had some great tips, like making sure to pack a toothbrush for DH, because his coffee breath is going to severely annoy you when you're ten hours into labor and he's right up on you helping you through contractions.
The second class was a hospital tour and then labor practice. We went through the different stages of labor, and she went over what is helpful at each stage. She also explained the pros/cons of the different pain relief options available at our hospital.
The last class (this week) will be about post-partum and how to take care of a newborn.
It's been really good, for us, but I think it has a lot to do with your instructor.
