NBR: How many of you use a MAC vs PC?

So, we're looking at replacing our aging desktop PC. We have a PC laptop that my DH wil most likely use for school. If you have a MAC is it really worth the price tag? I really like the photo editing software and the virus free aspect. I've never owned one. Are they difficult to use?

Re: NBR: How many of you use a MAC vs PC?

  • I love mine.  They're easier to use in the sense that you never have to randomly reboot because something won't work.  :)

The operating system is very similar to Windows, so most everything will look familiar.  But what will drive you bonkers is that there are a few things that are ever so slightly different, so it kind of throws you off (like dragging a disk to the trash to eject it).

    I definitely recommend them.

  • My sister just got her first and is in mad love with it.  It was like $1600.  Not something I can afford but she got it for her business.  Her hubby is a computer tech and also has one that he loves.  They said they will never go back to a PC.  Hope that helps.

I did use hers for about ummm an hour and did enjoy using it.  I dont use a computer for anything other than the internet and pictures so Im good with a $500 deal from Walmart.

  • I used to be a Mac girl until I started my job four years ago. I miss my Macs, honestly. But now I use my work laptop for everything.

I'd love to get a new Mac but we can't afford it at the moment. Maybe someday.

This is awesome advice.  If you're using your computer for internet, word processing (Word, Excel, etc), and Photoshop, get the lowest-end computer you can.  You don't need the extra processing power (or, honestly, even the memory) a higher-end machine brings.  You just end up paying a lot more money for power you will never use.  This is true for Mac or PC.

  • Love our MAC. Definitley worth the price as it will last far longer than a PC. We have been though several PC laptops that sucked, we should have bought a MAC sooner. I love when you turn it on, it is actually on right away. You don't have to wait a year and a half for it to boot up. And it never randomly shuts down or has to re-boot.?
  • Love our MACs- will never go back to PCs.

  • We have both and I use them both. ?I don't really like one better than the other, but I really only use the computer for internet and work.
  • We will never own anything other than a Mac either. It's great, I love it. It's really easy to use and won't crash the way a PC will.?

We've had our computer almost 5 years.. and had no problems with it. In that time, my Aunt has replaced her Dell 5 times. No lie. She could've bought our computer in the amount of times she's replaced hers. ?

  • I don't care what you're using your computer for, a Mac is worth EVERY penny and then some.  No viruses, awesome customer service (pay the extra money for Apple Care) and lasts so much longer than a PC.  We have been Mac people for a long time and would NEVER go back to PCs again.  Not the hassle of breakdowns, viruses, upgrades, etc. to "save" a little money.
