Re: " April Moms to be Monday Check In "
Good Morning Girls,
I have been hesitant to join - didn't want to jinx it (although I know there's no such thing). I have a ultrasound this Friday. I should be 9 weeks. I am praying for a strong little heartbeat. But, here goes...
bump name: TXgrlnFL
real name: Heather
age: 33
EDD: 4/24/10
What things are you doing to start saving money for when baby gets here?
I had a savings account set up for school that $100 each week was deducted from my paycheck and deposited there automatically. As I just paid for my last semester, that has been officially renamed "the bean fund". In addition, my husband and I have vowed to only order out/go out to dinner twice a month and to pack our lunches. Seeing as how nothing tastes good and I can barely hold anything in, I'd say that's saving us some money!
Look for to "meeting" all the other April bumpies
I'm feeling exhausted, but otherwise ok. I'm excited about my 12 week appt on 9-24 and my NT scan on 9-29!
As for saving money...we're not awful, but we need to step it up so I can't wait to see what others are doing.
Happy Monday!! I am excited to do the u/s countdown. . . we have our NT scan on Friday. T-minus 4 days until we can see our little monkey.
QOTD: We aren't specifically saving money, but we will be re-using all of our baby stuff from DS #1 and don't need to buy much of anything (car seat, stroller, crib, change table, glider, etc). . . and I am excited to find out the gender of the baby. If it is a boy, then I won't even need to buy many clothes, since I kept a bunch from DS. Now, if it is a girl, well, that is another story!!
everyone update, cheerful we'll miss you good luck with the May moms!
As for the question, we are setting up a savings account for the baby for college savings. For now it's going to be an extension of our account but once the baby is born and I got a SS# I will open his/her own account and then connect that to our checking so I can deposit money in it when I get paid. For just saving money in general we have added an extra 2% to our savings each paycheck. We haven't eliminated anything, but we don't really go out to eat or go shopping all that often so its easier for us than most.

QOTD: ?I've always had $200 go into a savings account every month (not alot but that is what I can afford). ?We just received our first time home buyers credit in the mail so $1000 went straight into savings. ?So far I have six months of mortgage payments saved. ?Or three to four complete months of living expenses. ?So I should be fine when I am on maternity leave.
Luckily our parents have decided they would like to purchase our nursery furniture as a gift so that is one big expense that I don't have to save for!?
my blog :: the domestic wannabe
QOTD: What things are you doing to start saving money for when baby gets here?
Right now, just spending less where we can. I'm kind of in the hole w/money (although DH is not) b/c of some credit card debt and the fact I've stayed at a low paying job for too long. In about a month or so I'm switching jobs to one that pays more and will allow me to work extra hours if I want to, which is what I plan to do for as long as I can to pay off that debt and start a cushy savings fund. Once I pay off my debt, we'll start a joint savings (we didn't do this before b/c I had nothing to contribute).
Today is my first appointment. So far I haven't let myself think about m/c because I know worrying about it won't change anything, but today I'm very nervous that they won't be able to find anything in the u/s
QOTD: I'm not really doing anything. I don't handle any of the money because I normally screw it up, but I know MH has started putting money aside. He has also paid off almost all of our credit cards.
Hello everyone!
QOTD: we stopped going out of town every other weekend.. we are big music junkies and went to concerts (generally unknown bands, so it wasn't all the expensive) but the gas, tickets, hotels, food adds up! We have already seen a big increase in our budget from putting on the breaks!
we have tried to eat more at home and will continue to do that. We are also buying a home so we can stop throwing money away renting! =] When we get the first time homebuyers we are going to put it on the bills we do have so we will have less monthly payments.
FYI lisvenn and mrslisvenn is the same person - thebump is giving me a hard time about using lisvenn for some reason...?
as for saving money - we have talked about it but we are not sure what we are going to save money for
?
Life is good. We're moving into our new house in three weeks and yesterday 11 people put 20 gallons of colorful paint on the wall. It about killed me to not be able to help them, but the Dr. thought since I was still in my first tri it was best to stay out of the fumes.
As far as saving money, we're really not worrying about it since this is our second. We may get a double stroller, but haven't decided yet.
Jenni - my due date has changed. Please move me from April 17th to April 15th. Thank you.
QOTD: What things are you doing to start saving money for when baby gets here?
Honestly, I'm not doing enough to save money. DH & I need to get a plan into place. Our family has given us a fair amount of money for this baby so far & we have put it away. But I'm just itching to buy all kinds of baby stuff. So far I've kept it to a minimum, but I'm not sure how much longer I will last.
Hello! May I please be added?
butrfli779- Ashlee - 26 - April 18th
Thank you! I had my first appt. on the 9th which I expressed on here. The ultrasound showed I was possibly 4 days less along (if that makes sense? lol) than previously thought, so my due date may change. I have another u/s this Wednesday and we're hoping and praying everything looks good! The Dr. was unable to get a good look last time and the stupid lady shut off the machine before he could write anything down!
QOTD: We are not doing anything specifically to save for the baby, just saving in general. We just got married July 25th and are building a house that should be done by Halloween, so we are really jumping into everything at once!
GL to everyone on a safe and healthy pregnancy!
beanlooween- Becki- 26- EDD 4/22/10
thanks!

Operation saving for baby went into full effect at the beginning of Sept. I am a big time saver for "what if". We increased our paycheck deduction and have tried to eat out less. When and if we do eat out, its usually lunch and nothing fancy.
fyi-ING has a great set up that you can connect a savings account to any checking account. they allow you to automatically set up transfers from your checking to your ING savings. its free!
GL ladies.
We are doing a lot of renovations ourselves, or should I say my DH is. We are also buying some stuff early (diapers, anyone?) so that we are not bombarded with the cost later. I do put money in savings any change I get to help later on (I had to stop because the VA has refused to pay for DH's schooling, but hopefully that will change). Buying things second hand is definetly going to help as well.
Jenni, I just wanted to say thank you for having taken charge of the group. You are doing such a great job, espcially putting up with all the people who just want to complain. Thank you for all the hard work!
So far we have done nothing but that might change. We will see.
QOTD: We have already been on a good budget and have been able to pay off all debt and put money into savings. I'll just be putting the housing allowance I get with my GI Bill for college away into the savings; other than that, we'll keep doing what we've been doing. So far, a written budget that we stick to has been working wonders!
I've been kinda slacking on the whole money saving thing. I'm not really good at saving though so I just do what the DH tells me too, because I'd put us in the poorhouse. But we are moving into our new house at the end of October, and I have lowered my carnote by $100. We've also stopped hanging out and traveling. So we're putting a few coins away here and there.
Update: Not much going on here. Just VERY sleepy and ravenously hungry. Trying to settle back into work since I was off for the the whole summer and this is our first full week back. My body is used to a mid afternoon nap, and I'm not getting it anymore.
We haven't saved for the baby, but are trying to cut costs like trying to eat out less and cook more from home.
QOTD: Dh is a financial advisor so he's all over this stuff. He keep ranting about 529 plans etc. I kinda keep out of it bc it is not my area of expertise.
Thurs is my first u/s and I can't wait. Hoping that everything goes well. Still feeling nauseous most days but knock on wood no vomit yet!
Help me spread Urea Cycle Disorder Awareness!! 2011 DD diagnosed with UCD 2012 started process for IVF with PGD 8/9/12 started stims- 8/20/12 ER- 20 retrieved, 19 ICSI'D, 12 biopsied 5 viable unaffected embryos 8/25/12 ET-1 "awesome" embryo-9/4/12 1st beta- BFP with HPT at 7dp5dt- Beta #1 9/4/12- 210!, Beta #2 9/6/12- 465, First scan on 9/19/12 Baby Boy due 5/13/13- diagnosed with a single umbilical artery
Hi everyone!
I'm very excited today. Today is my first "official" scan. I've had several ultrasounds but nothing that stems more than "Oh I see two heartbeats. Ok you're done." I just keep hoping everything will go well! These appts are hard to wait for in the 1st trimester.
Me and DH always set aside as much as we possibly can into savings account when we deposit anything. It's easier not to spend it when its not in your checking account. I notice we save money with me being pregnant too. I'm not in the mood to go out to eat much, and when we do go out, all I want is something small with a water.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi everyone! I was out last week on vacation, hope everyone had a wonderful week/weekend.
QOTD: We haven't started just yet, we aren't in to bad of shape but we do need to start putting money aside. Haven't come up with a plan yet though.
This week i have my NT scan, can't wait for that! And then i will be telling everyone at work. I can't wait to get it over with, i'm tired of having to hide it.
Avery Corinne - Born 7/9/10 at 37w2d
I miscalculated my due date. It's 4/11, not 4/12.
I started a "baby fund" a few months ago and put away about $100/month into it. It's more for baby expenses and any extra money we might need while on maternity leave. This is baby #3, so we already have almost everything we need, unless we have a girl--then we will need clothes.
Morning! Hope this week goes by fast we have a sono FRIDAY!!!
We haven't done much as for saving, being able to use most of DD stuff is savings enough. We will have to buy a new stroller but I think that will be the biggest item, next to the bedding!
QOTD: Right now we are saving for a new car we hope to purchase this winter. We want one with more storage than my DH's current car, a Honda Civic. We'll need it after baby is born when we are traveling to visit family out of town and we have more things to pack. We have also considered buying some Target gift cards for ourselves to use after baby is born for things like diapers, etc. After the baby is born we plan to start a college savings account for him/her. We already have enough money saved to cover the unpaid time I will be out for maternity leave.
In other news, I was so happy that baby allowed me to feel well enough last night to enjoy some buffalo wings and french fries to kick off football season. Thank you, LO! It was soooo good.
QOTD: What things are you doing to start saving money for when baby gets here?
Nothing as of yet, we are right in the middle of a kitchen renovations, so wasn't much we could do as far as that. Soon though I hope to cut way back on our spending.

QOTD: What things are you doing to start saving money for when baby gets here?
I have a spreadsheet that I do our budget on and I usually just put in how much is coming in that month and then I list each bill and how much it is taking out...so I've started to add "Baby Savings" as a bill in the budget and usually that "bill" costs $50-$100 per month (right now, will probably go up once we get closer). So basically, i'm paying our savings account before any "fun money" is used.
