We had an extended family picture taken with an awesome photographer. They spent 45 minutes with me going over the what to wear decision. They even had 'good' and 'bad' example pictures.
they key is getting the same amount of light on everyone's face. So everyone's shirt should have the same level of color/brightness intensity. So - you cant do pastel on one person and navy on another. Also - if you do something with dark shirts, but lighter bottoms(like kakhi), your eyes jump to the light bottoms first - instead of the faces. This place had a family show up like that and so he did a kakhi background to avoid having the pants be such a contrast.
Also - no prints, stripes or anything like that.
We ended up doing kakhi on bottom, pale blue on top for everyone and we think it turned out great and the photographer said so as well.
