Presby Dallas delivery ?s

Has anyone delivered at Presby Dallas recently? I have some questions about the rooms.

I know our ins will cover the semi-private room & possibly the private room but what is the real difference between these and the suites? Since this is our first, we had a previous loss, & it took us so long to get pg again, DH will be staying w/ me 24/7 and I just want to make sure we're both comfortable. Even if we have to pay out of pocket for it. TIA!

  • I hear the suites are the bees knees. If you can swing it, I'd do it. That is definitely the time you want to be comfortable.

The rooms at Baylor are pretty nice, but my poor 6'8" DH spent all 3 nights on a pull out chair.

I think that is the hospital that does steak and lobster on your last night.

  • I delivered at presby Dallas a year ago. We got the private room and not the suite. The only difference is the suite has a smaller room when you walk in. You can shut that door off from your room. It has a few chairs in there. The private room was plenty. We didn't think that extra room was necessary and worth the price. Our guests either waited in the waiting room or were in the room with us where the baby was. They brought DH in a fold out trundle bed. He said it was pretty comfortable.

  • I delivered at Presby in June - DH said the pull out bed was not comfortable but I had a C-section and we were there for four nights so that could have had something to do with it.

I don't think the suites are worth it personally but do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.  Congratulations!

  • I think the general rule for Presby is that a private room is $100 a night. I highly suggest going  that route. We've gone back and forth about getting a suite but they're really pricey. I've told my DH I'd rather go spend the money and stay at the Ritz than the suite.

My husband stays with me the entire time as well. I don't think either of us would have it any other way.

  • I think it depends on how many visitors you are planning on having and where the waiting room is for the visitors.

I delivered at Baylor in Frisco.  The first night we were in a private room and then the next day, they moved us to a bigger room.  When you walked in, there was a lounge area with 2 chairs, a pull out couch, and a TV.  In the back half was my bed and 2 more chairs.  There was a curtain you could pull to separate the 2 rooms.  That came in really handy for us.  We had a ton of visitors and if my doc or a nurse or someone came my to check on me, we could just pull the curtain and not make everyone exit to the waiting room.  To my knowledge, there wasn't a price difference.  I think it was just first come, first serve.

I know it's a long way up there, but for anyone close, I would HIGHLY recommend the hospital.  It's the one with the steak/lobster dinner, free blankets for the kids, and the nicest staff ever.  The food was awesome and they always brought an extra tray for DH, even when I was there on bedrest the week before the twins arrived.

  • You should be able to go tour both rooms and see what you think.  Baylor Dallas recently remodeled and I think they have the nicest rooms now if you are looking at hospitals.  I had a great experience at Presby Dallas in just a regular room.
  • Thanks for the info ladies! It sounds like the private room will do fine for us, it will also give me a reason to limit the # of visitors (DH has a huuuge family)! We know for sure that we're delivering at presby Dallas since that's where both my OB and the ped are located, even though a steak & lobster dinner sounds delish :)

  • I just delivered there last week. I suggest you get hospital tour, made me feel better about the delivery in general. The suites didnt look like anything special to me. Not worth the money. Everything is exactly the same except a seperate little seating area right when you enter the room. We had a private and it was fine, small but your not there long. And honestly, with the room small it made people stay for less amounts of time which we were glad. Good luck with your delivery! All in all I had a good experience there, make sure you ask lots of questions and dont hesitate to ask the nurses for anything!
