Potty training a boy

So last night DS told me before his bath that he needed to poop.  It turns out, he needed to pee, but wanted to do it in the potty chair - this was a first!  He stood instead of sitting, probably because that's how Daddy does it.  Did you son learn to pee standing up with the potty chair?  I guess he'll stand eventually, right?

Re: Potty training a boy

  • My DS has never really peed standing up, except in emergencies when we are out walking.  I am afraid of the mess they may make peeing with standing but if he is able to do it good for him!!  It took us a while to get him into the habit of "pushing his penis down" when on the potty, we had alot of messes until he got that down.  Good luck with PT!
  • he sits. i figure he'll stand to pee when he's ready -- he's done it once or twice.

  • My DS doesn't like to sit... he er, uh, squats kinda. :)

He takes the bowl out of the potty chair and puts his weenie in there and squats a little..then pees. LOL! I have no clue where he learned this-but he does want to stand-not sit. And since it works for him-I'm ok with it. :)

  • Mine started sitting but quickly went to standing on a stool in front of the big potty.

  • mine will sit sometimes and stand sometimes...

when we are outside he always stands, inside if he goes on the little potty, he sits, if he goes at the big potty, he does both, if he's with his daddy he'll stand, if he's with me he wants to sit, but then he'll scoot clear to the back of the toilet seat so he can watch his pee hit the water?? oh well whatever works.  I figure when he's ready he'll completely stand, for now he likes to do both

  • Evan started off sitting, but now he stands to pee. ?If we're in a public restroom, I like that he doesn't actually have to touch anything.

  • DS has been sitting.  DH really wanted him to learn standing up but I read somewhere(can't remember where) that said it was easier for a boy to learn sitting down and then go to standing later.  It said something about it being easier to control the muscles needed for potty training/bladder & bowel control when sitting.  Since then DH agreed that learning is more important than standing so we went with sitting for now.
  • DS is sitting for now. However, DH actually sits most of the tme (I'm sure he'd love me sharing that, lol!) unless he's in public, so I don't think it's occurred to DS to stand.
