Has anyone ever used either of these...my dermatologist just prescribed these for me due to a diagnosis of peri oral dermatitis due to pregnancy(red itchy bumps and acne covering chin and nose area). He said they are safe in pregnancy (class B drugs) but based on the research I have done it seems that there still may be some risk?
Re: Clindamycin and Finacea
I am currently on clindamycin for a tooth infection. I was a bit leery as well but my OB, dentist, and the pharmacist all said it was okay.
There is always going to be "some risk." There really aren't any Class A drugs....no one is going to promise you that something is 100% safe. However, class B drugs have been researched and studied....plus they are regularly prescribed to many pregnant women.
As with all things is pregnancy (medications, caffeine, things you eat) you have to decide personally if the benefit outweighs those small risks.
I think if you are really worried about it talk to your dermatologist more or call your OB and see what he/she thinks. They are probably better resources than an internet message board.
I have been using clindamycin daily with no problems. The dermatologist wouldn't give it to you if it was harmful.
