I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but in your experience what could possibly cause a long history of abnormal (most ASCUS, but a few CIN 1 tests mixed in there too) Paps? Due to my history the doctor always does an HPV test with each Pap and they've always come back negative. The very first Pap I ever had, even before I was sexually active, was ASCUS...
Re: ***buffalo_buckeye***
I think it's just your cells Everyone's looks slightly different, and we look at the ratio between the nucleus and the rest of the cell to determine if something is abnormal (the bigger the nucleus and smaller the cytoplasm the more abnormal, if you were curious).
ASCUS is really a shot in the dark. It is usually just what it stands for "Atypical cells of undetermined significance". It could be something, it could be nothing. I think like 75%-80% are nothing (if I remember right).
Sometimes people will just have chronic inflammation that causes the cells to react funny and look possibly abnormal.
The fact that you have had neg HPV tests is most important. The HPV test can have false positives/false negatives but overall it is a great test when combined with the pap. If your HPV test came out positive I would tell you to be more aggressive with the amount of paps you get and if you barely feel it when the Dr. scrapes, I would find a new one. If the cells aren't there on the smear, then they won't be found. And most of the abnormal cells are typically found right inside the little hole in your cervix, where the Dr often misses.
I probably wouldn't worry if I were you. I would try to schedule your paps about 1-2 weeks after AF and avoid all those things that might irritate your cervix the day before (like sex, douche, who knows, lol). HTH
Let me know if that didn't answer your question.
