NBR: anyone have Chase bank?

I am so freaking annoyed with this bank. They put random holds on my deposits for no reason at all. When they were WAMU, they put holds on the first few checks because I had just opened my account. Fine, I understand that. Then WAMU joined Chase. They put holds on my checks when that little announcement was made. FINE, I get it, "new" bank is kinda like a new account, so holds again. No big deal. Now they are doing it again! I have had this account for several years already. Why the F would they need to hold my deposits??? Do they do this for everyone? All they can tell me when I question them is that the "computer" says it's going to put a hold and it might be because the payer's bank can't confirm enough funds in their account and all I could do is go to the bank where the check was from and cash it there. So last payday I raised a stink with my employer, they checked their account and had waaay enough funds to pay my check. I am so annoyed but I don't want to deal with opening another account at a different bank. Ugh!

Re: NBR: anyone have Chase bank?

  • Chase holds all non-cash deposits (even payroll checks) for at least 24 hours. It's their policy, and it's a PITA. I have to go cash all my paychecks since my employer refuses to do Direct Deposit.

  • Sounds frustrating, but if it continued, I would definitely take the time to find another bank.  I have never dealt with this problem with my banks.
  • I hate Chase too. I had wamu and they were great! Same thing no holds on deposits. Maybe 2 weeks ago I deposited cash and a check, and the check took a few days to go through. I was so annoyed. I miss my wamu! Oh and the chase banker was annoyed because I didn't write down my acct #. Well I was used to just swiping my card.
  • I can understand where you are coming from - I also have Chase now and the transition is certainly ridiculous.  But - there is not much you can do about it except change to another bank.

  • chase holds every non cash deposit i have unless its a chase account that it is coming from.  I also bank at TD bank (which used to be commerce) and they do the same thing - they actually hold for longer.
  • We had a HORRIBLE experience with Chase when someone cleaned out our bank account from one of their "Secure ATMS". Yes, we were mad that our money was stolen, but we were most upset with the way Chase treated us after the fact and how difficult it was to get the situation resolved.

As soon as it was resolved we closed our account and moved on to another bank.

And yes, the "hold" thing  was super annoying.

  • Yep. I was a loyal and happy WAMU customer and then they got bought out by Chase last fall...  I also have noticed that they put holds.  My DH has direct deposit, from a major corporation, has had direct deposit for years into this account and yet we can't access the funds until 24 hours later... and get this, I go online to transfer funds from one of our accounts to another and don't have immediate access to those funds either.. pending for a whole 24 hours?!  WTF.  Not happy with Chase.

  • Ugh - Don't even get me started.  I am LESS than satisfied with my relationship with Chase now, after buying out WAMU.  See PP (couple weeks ago) with my cc# being stolen.  What a nightmare!!!!!  When I find the time, I will be finding a new bank.
  • Sigh. At least I am not the only one. I had no idea about the 24 hour check hold, they have never done this before. Usually my funds are available right away unless they decide to put one of their random holds on them. Looks like I will be bank shopping sometime in the near future. I miss WAMU!

  • hmmm.  I have been with chase for about 10 years now and am satisfied with them.  I wouldn't say I "love" them because after all it is a bank, but I have never had any serious issues.  I have always had direct deposit and have never had to wait an extra 24 hours...on payday the money is there.  And on the rare occasion when I do make an actual deposit, if it is a check it does take about 2 days to clear but I usually don't need it that second anyway.  As for transfers, when I transfer funds from my ING acct to chase (or vice versa), that usually takes about 2 days because of the different banks.  Have lost my card 3 times in the 10 years, one of those times it was stolen and Chase really helped me deal with a shopping spree at Old Navy that I was not a part of.  They also gave me all the instructions on notifying the credit agencies and doing the fraud alert.  Another time I had a mix up and was overdrawn.  They charged me twice ($30 each) then a week later I got a letter saying they were waiving the fees as a curtosey (sp?) to me.

So, all in all it has been satisfying experience.  When they start transferring free money into my account maybe then I can say I LOVE THEM!

Sorry all you ladies are having issues, that sucks.

This. But they even hold direct deposit for 24 hours, which they are not supposed to do. I hate chase and even though we have had the same account for 9 years we are going to change banks. I can't take them any more. And their customer service sucks. They are completely unhelpful and do not care if you decide to leave the bank.

  • I am mourning the death of Wamu. I've been a customer there for maybe 10 years or so - and now that it's Chase, I'm miserable. My debit card has been screwey for over a week - any purchase that tries to run as "credit", both online and in stores, is declined, even though I have money. Debit purchases work, but for some reason I cannot get money out of the ATM. Also, after I had to replace my debit mastercard due to an online fraud, my savings account is no longer linked to my debit card, so I can't transfer money or withdraw or even LOOK at my money at an ATM. After this week of not being able to use my own money, I will be bank shopping. I am furious with Chase.
  • Wow, I had heard Chase was bad, but that sounds terrible!  If you are in the military, spouse is in the military, or you are the child of a veteran definitely check to see if you are eligible get USAA as your bank.  They are AMAZING.  For checks that are not direct deposit we just deposit from home via our scanner and everything is accessable instantly.  Customer service is also consistantly unbelievable.
  • thank god my employer does Direct deposit... but when i do deposit a check the hold is usually only 24-28 hours.
  • Oh don't get me started on my Chase/WAMU debacles.  I've had problems with both.  With WAMU, we had a large cashier's check made out from US Bank to be deposited at WAMU. THey told us that we had to wait 10-12 BUSINESS days!!  I'm like.. WTF! 3 days i can understand, maybe 5 days but 10-12!!! I told them that they can give the US Bank branch a call that issued the check to make sure it's all legitimate, etc and i even had the US Bank branch manager reach out to my WAMU branch mgr to expedite it, and they still took forever.  I've had so  many deposit check holds it's been frustrating!!  We are planning on moving out of Chase at the end of the month.
