Group B Strep?

Did anyone test positive for this?  What was your experience?  I got a voicemail from my OBt tonight that I tested positive for Group B strep.  I'm trying not to freak out, but I'm a little nervous.  She did say it's pretty common and nothing to worry about.  But then I googled it and now I'm a little worried.

Please share your stories with me on how it's nothing to worry about.

Re: Group B Strep?

  • I also had Strep B...my OB said there was no concern for me because I was going to have a C-section, and the baby would never come into contact with the birth canal.  But he did tell me that if I went into labor on my own, when I get to the hospital to tell them that I had strep B, so they would immediately hook me up to antibiotics.  As long as you have the antibiotics in your system there is no concern.  I wouldnt worry about it, it is very common, mostly all of my friends had it and they had no problems.  Good luck!!

  • Yes w/ last child and dr. tested me again and I have it w/ this one. I had to get ivs during labor. I read the internet this 2nd time around and it freaked me out all over again.
  • I found out I had it the day of delivery (33 wks) and they put me on antibiotics and also DS when he was born.  Try not to worry, I didn't even make it to the test and everything is okay : )  Can't believe you are getting so close!

  • I did not have it with DS 1, but with this one I do. EVERYONE has it in their body, but sometimes it is active, and sometimes not. You will just get some antibiotics when you go in to labor and it will be fine!
  • I tested negative when they did the vag scrape, but then tested positive with my urine. Strange...

Anyway, I guess they just hook you up to antibiotics when you arrive at the hospital. It shouldn't be a big deal.

  • My best friend was positive for this and delivered a healthy baby boy back in March of this year.  She was just told as soon as contractions started to get to the hospital.  This was so they could start IV meds asap to avoid passing it on to him.  Other than that, it didn't effect her delivery or their health one bit...stay off google! :)
