Nope never supplemented. I think there are a couple key things that I did - -
1. Not over feeding. I can not express how many moms I see on this board WAY over bottle feeding their BF baby. BM intake does NOT increase the way it does with formula. I always recommend moms check out kelleymom.com to see the max stomach capacity of infants at different ages, use the following formula weight * 2.5/# of daily feedings. With both my kids, the max they ever took via a bottle was 6 oz and that was only for 1 feeding/day (so not EVERY feeding being 6 oz - one might be 3, another 4 and another 6).
2. So of relates to above...serve what you pump the next day. Don't always assume that you must have a certain amount (within reason) the following day. As an example, if I pump 4 oz during my morning pumping session, then I'm going to have my nanny serve that 4 oz the next morning. I don't automatically assume "well the previous day he took 4.5 oz so I have to supplement or take out frozen BM to make up the gap". Baby's hunger changes day to day and meal to meal (just like ours).
Way to go I cna only hope that i can make it that long. Honestly how difficult was it to pump while you were at work.
Most of the time, not a big deal - PITA - yes, but not difficult. Block time out on your calendar as a reoccuring meeting!! Treat it like any other meeting that you must attend. Get set up hands free so you can do something else during pumping time - surf the net, make calls, etc. Also helps for the times where your schedule does get crazy (e.g. you miss a pumping session) so you can pump while driving.
Congratulations! I am so happy to see posts like this one. I also hope to make it to a year. I still don't know how I am going to pump at work but I will make it work, and hopefully I won't encounter problems.
To the mommies hopeful of making it this far - it is possible!!! DD is 13.5mo and I'm still nursing/pumping. She's only had 2oz of formula EVER (daycare spilled a bottle of EBM). We're now introducing some rice milk (waiting on allergy tests to determine if she's allergic to dairy & soy, bc she threw up when we introduced those), but she still takes 12oz of EBM per day and nurses AM/PM.
What helped me was setting mini goals. Saying, OK I want to make it to 6 months, then 9 months, then 12. The task seemed less daunting that way. There are other moms on here who nursed past 1yr too.
