My dad is suggested this...is it dumb?

Iler is having her tonsils out Wednesday.

My dad suggested, since she can only have soft foods, to give her baby food again.

Um.  It sounds like it may work. Has anyone else done this?

Also, with her milk issue, I'm limited on what I can give her (ie, no yogurt, no ice cream, etc).

  • If she'll eat it, I think its a great idea!  You could also try soup.  Good luck!
  • Not dumb if she will eat them.  I bet the fruit will be good if cold, not sure about the veggies.  What about like mashed potatoes, popsicles, mashed banana things like that.

  • I don't know if she will eat it but it is worth a try.  What about pureeing some soup like chicken and rice or stars and rice?

  • My kids wouldn't eat it.  But you can do soft fruit and veggies...applesauce, bananas, potatoes.

  • Kevs, usually the soups' ingredients are soft enough.  I'll try them but at room temp, you think they'd taste good?

And I'll have to make homemade mashed potatoes because the instant ones have milk and butter....stupid milk!

  • That sounds like a good idea!  I would stick mostly to the fruits or even the "desserts" because they probably don't taste too bad.  You can also make smoothies (milk free, of course) and freeze them in an ice cube tray with lollipop sticks to make little popsicles.

  • My son didn't want to eat anything when he had his tonsils out -- we had to play drinking games to get him to drink juice. I managed to get him to eat pudding after a couple of days.

If she will eat baby food, I'd give it to her. Also, we took DS to the grocery store and let him pick out any popsicles or ice cream (you could use sorbet or something non-dairy) he wanted.

Yeah, we were watching Sesame St. videos and everytime someone said "Elmo" we had to take a drink. We played "Quarters" too -- only we just threw the quarters into a basket. What can I say -- the kid needed to drink and he didn't want to because his throat hurt.

  • DD2 had a really sore throat last week and wouldn't eat until she saw me feeding the baby I keep her baby foods. She was suddenly interested in eating. She actually ate a few bites of sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash for a couple of days. And of course, the fruits. But you could mash up your own sweet potatoes too.

What about applesauce? I like it cold.
