1st Trimester

how quickly did you get prego with #2 after c-section?

My lil guy is 6 months and i really want to try for #2 soon.  My dr. suggested that i do wait about a year - but I told her i was going to try at 10 months (she said okay).  Did anyone do it early than that?  I kind of want to start trying sooner than 10 months.  If so, will you have another c-section or VBAC option?

  • We got pregnant two months after.  It was an oops.

I would wait the entire time your dr suggested. They tell you a year for a reason. It will make the second pregnancy easier with fewer potential complications. It takes your body 2 years to fully recover from a pregnancy.

This. Especially if you want a VBAC. I'm pretty sure a VBAC is out the window for me now, which blows. The thought of recovering from a csection and caring for a 1 year old and an infant makes me ill. Also I had the csection from hell the first time around. I found out I was pg was DD was 4.5 months old. It was an "oops". We were orginally going to wait a year before trying if not longer.

  • I didn't have a c-section, but I just read an article about a study showing better mother and baby health if conception occured 12 months or later, especially after a c-section.  It specifically talked about waiting at least a year for successful VBACs.  It was related to how well your uterus heals in between pregnancies.  Unfortunately I read it in the doctor's office and don't remember what the magazine was and don't remember who did the study.  I'm thinking it might have been a Mayo Clinic magazine??  But I seriously wouldn't bet on it.

On a more personal note, my cousin had a c-section with her first and got pregnant again when her LO was just over a year.  She tried a VBAC, but was unsuccessful and had another c-section.  She got pregnant again with her third child when LO#2 was 9months old.  She had a scheduled c-section, but went into labor the day of the c-section.  They said that her uterus literally ripped open where her previous incision was during a contraction and recommended that she either not have any more kids or wait several years.  They said her uterus was having a hard time healing beause of so many c-sections back-to-back.

  • I got pregnant at 8 months pp. ?It was a terrible pregnancy and I spent 11 SOLID weeks on bedrest and still delivered 9 weeks early with another csection. ?My body was NOT ready.
  • I know this a personal decision and I don't want to infringe on that, BUT it is reccommended that you wait AT LEAST 18 mo from giving birth to become pregnant again. There are all kinds of health reasons why, your body is still adjusting to not being pregnant, you uterus us still shrinking, during pregnancy your body is depleted of vitamins and minerals and after biorth your body is trying to build those back up again ( especially if you're BF'ing!). You reproductive organs also ned adequate time to heal after giving birth, its a traumatic experience. AND after a C-section, your uterine wall is weakened, getting pregnant too soon after having a C-section puts you at a much higher risk for uterine rupture because the scar has not healed porperly. My advice, is to NOT get pregnant until at least a year after giving birth. IMO opinion that it to much to soon for your body, and possibly you emotionally and physically. Get used to being a mom first! You're still learning how to be amom to the first one, and enjoy this time! then think about the next baby.   My 1st baby was a c-section baby, she's 2 and we are just now pregnant with #2

  • Every doctor is different, but my doctor told me to wait at least 6months.

  • My doctor told me I could start trying at 6 months. ?My son turned 6 months on the 8th, and on the 9th I got a positive HPT....oops, guess I cheated by a few weeks!
  • Its recommended you wait at least a year because that's when, on average, your ute is ok again.  However, it will vary based on individuals.  My midwife said that I was a great healer and I would be fine earlier - didn't intend to test the theory, but oops.  Don't know about the VBAC though, its always a risk no matter how much time between pregnancies you take.
  • My DS was 6 months when I got pg again and he is 9 months now.  My Dr said there was no issue getting pg at that time.  I can see right after a c section but I was completely healed.  The only thing he said was no VBAC due to uterine rupture.  I am having a planned c section in Feb. :)
  • We are kind of in the same boat. I found out I was pregnant again when my son was just a little over 4 1/2 months to. I had an emergency C-section the first time around. I was nervous going to the doctor but he wasn't to surprised. Even told me we could try for a VBAC. But I would rather just do the section again. This was for sure not planned on our part but thats alright. It is not as easy this time around either, being sick all day and caring for a very active 5 month old now.....
  • I was surprised to be pregnant 5 weeks after having my son by c-section.  The doctor told me I'm at a higher chance for a mc because of that.  I would suggest that you wait.  Having a infant and being pregnant is not the easiest thing for your body.  The good side of getting pregnant sooner is that your two children will be closer in age.  I'm 9 weeks so far and haven't had any complications, but who knows the further I get.  My doctor told me that I would have to have another c-section a week before my due date because they don't do VBAC.  I would listen to the doctor, they know what is safe for you and your future baby.
