Help - how to do a treasure hunt for 3 & 4 yr olds?

Planning a Peter Pan neverland birthday party for DS's 4th birthday but there are going to be kids from ages 2-5 but i would think the 3,4 and 5 yr olds would participate.  How do I do a treasure hunt in our backyard with a peter pan theme that is easy enough but not too difficult?  All i know is at the end they find a treasure and I am going to have loot bags one for each kid.

Ideas please??

  • We did a Dora treasure hunt for Gracie's 2nd birthday.? The kids had to follow a map through 3 obstacles (like in the show) that led them to our sandbox where the treasures were buried (in ziploc baggies).? My 7 y/o led them through it (we practiced a couple of times that morning).? I don't think they could have done it if we made it more complicated than that and if we didn't have a guide.??

  • i'm not sure how big your back yard is .....

but you could do several clues - that are pictures & words.

like - the first one - meet at the swingset - then at the swingset you could have an adult that makes them do something (like fight captain hook) to get their next clue. the next clue could send them to a tree - there they could do something to get their next clue. etc.

i did this at a camp w/a little bit older kids - but you could simplify.

  • Just a thought... do you have a sandbox? You could hide items in the sandbox, or in nooks of a tree...or hanging from branches.
