Anyone know of a healthier alternative to poptarts?

Will loves poptarts, but I can't in good conscience feed them to him after seeing the calorie count and ingredient list on those things.  It's seriously scary.  Anyone know of something similar that's not as scary?

Re: Anyone know of a healthier alternative to poptarts?

  • LOL, I LOVE poptarts!  They aren't healthy!?!??!?!?!! ;)

What about toaster strudles?  Are they any better?

  • Are those fruit bars just as bad?
  • Loading the player...
  • We get some at Costco that are organic - I think they are Nature's Gate or something and they are pretty good...  I don't know about much healthier though.
  • There are organic ones, but they have just as much sugar. So do things like nutra grain bars (or the organic ones). The only difference is ingredients.
  • bagel, cream cheese and jam?
  • Whether or not they're any healthier is up for debate. IMO, the nutritional content is about the same but they use better ingredients without as much funky stuff.

  • Trader Joe's toaster pasteries are just like pop tarts!
  • Oh yeah they are called Nature's Path

  • We use the kind that Cleo posted. They actually taste like real food rather than corn syrup and crap. He doesn't eat them that often anymore, but I feel better about them than Pop Tarts.
She's crafty - and she's just my type.
  • Then Pop Tart nutritional info looks very similar.

  • I buy ds the ones with added Fiber.  They are made by the Poptart brand but in a green box.  The only downside well for kids is that they do have icing but no sprinkles. :(  DS asks me to sprinkle a few on top so I do but by the time he picks it up, they fall off. LOL! HTH!

  • I don't think there is. Maybe make them a weekend treat?  I would think of them more as a desert than anything else.  They taste gross to me actually.  Too sweet.  I am a salt girl...
