I have GD, but have been controlling it with diet and exercise (I have only gained 10 lbs), and the last time I spoke with my OB 2 weeks ago and asked about induction, he said it wasn't being looked at for me. Well, at today's visit (the first of the weeklys), I didn't gain any weight, but it seems the baby might've grown more than he expected, so he scheduled me for an induction on the 20th, pending if I have made any progress at my next appt. I am dissapointed that he feels the need to induce, because I am all for letting LO come when she is ready, and was certain he would let me go longer because I was controlling my weight. I know this is all for the good of the baby, but I also feel that letting her "bake" a few extra weeks could be good for her as well...
Re: possible induction date...slight vent
I would ask for specific reasons why he is suddenly so concerned that he would schedule an induction two weeks before your EDD. Did you have a growth u/s? Did you talk to him about the inaccuracy of those for predicting size?
Bottom line: this is still up to you.
I have GD as well, and was told at my diagnoses that I would be induced at 39 weeks if I did not go into labor naturally before then.
I have seen some women on here that disagree with this part... but I was told that it is because the placenta ages faster with GD, and a 39 week placenta is more like a 40 week placenta.
I have read differing fews online though.
I would try to negotiate with your doc. As long as you and baby are healthy, I see no need for induction.

I would push back.
I wouldn't absolutely refuse, but there's nothing wrong with asking a TON of questions about the risks of induction vs the risks of her staying in. (And even if a 39wk GD placenta is like a normal 40wk placenta - there's NOTHING wrong with a 40 or 41 week placenta! A normal pg is anywhere from 38-42 weeks. You are NOT overdue at 40wks. The average gestation for a 1st time mom is just over 41wks)
Ask what tests they can do, what steps they can take (and you can take) to try to start labor on your own (like nipple stimulation, walking, sitting/bouncing on a yoga ball, taking castor oil, membrane stripping, accupressure or accupuncture).
